“You’re falling deeper and deeper into the murky abyss. You can’t discontinuance now! You’re falling feet first, dragged into the depths of your heart, and you will meet the conscience which you’ve never known.”

Three bizarre and shocking suicides consume station. A 73-year archaic man jumps out of his apartment window after giving his wife a indicate on her 70th birthday. An 18-year extinct girl literally runs herself to death on an outdoor track, shocking for the shots of her zigzag and hooked legs. And a groom strangles himself to death at his gain wedding reception. What they all have in current is that before they went berserk, they all mentioned “the green monkey.”

Officer Sakurai, a mature officer in his early sixties, is in charge of the case, and baffled, as he is unsatisfied with possibilities that they unprejudiced suddenly lost hope. He bewails the plot of affairs at a bar. “In the faded days, murderers stole money to sprint from poverty. Later, they wanted money to hold expensive things for vanity. Then they grow tired of material desires. Humans lives are so devalued. Humans are losing their hearts. When did people begin dying so illogically? ” However, a young psychologist named Saga, whose specialty is disassociative identity disorder, poses the possibility that the three were hypnotized. Sakurai befriends Saga and asks for his attend. Saga points out that via post-hypnosis, an outside note could have been given to the victim while under hypnosis, and when that mark is given, they act as ordered. “They all mentioned what broke their hearts and acted on it. They were hypnotized to isolate those wounds and widen them. Anyone would want to die then.” Heck, I’ve had enough wounds that don’t need hypnosis to widen them-I do that graceful myself, but maybe memory control to erase those poor memories would support me.

Hypnosis does have its benefits, motion control, distress control during surgery or dental work, and memory controls, namely, erasing awful memories. Furthermore, the hypnotized reacts only to the hypnotist alone. However, one’s actions is controlled by one’s unconsciousness, so one cannot be forced to go against one’s hold morals, say killing someone. The hypnotizer is a guide, to abet people into warm places.

But there are ways can be abused. Jissouji is the main offender in this film. This improper, smug-looking accelerate likes nothing better than to exhaust his powers to acquire women in a location of undress, or even present them on a sensationalistic live variety point to, mainly to obtain laughs from the audience. A disturbed girl named Yuka Irie frantically beseeches him to wait on her from the green monkey, but when he realizes there is another personality existing within her, an alien named Andria from Fatima who speaks in a mechanical monotone, he doesn’t hesitate to exploit her. Nice guy, upright? Furthermore, people are bombarded by subliminal advertising on billboards or TV, so one can’t stop pure in the immense city.

The police catch out about Yuka and Jissouji and launch investigating Yuka, who was hospitalized for anorexia. Sakurai and his cute female assistant, Mitsui, learn some sordid details that occurred while she was being treated. As the epic goes on, more people commit suicide in evil ways, such as locking oneself in a freezing meat locker, and turning on the gas stove while washing one’s face as the flames engulf the face. All the while, Saga tries to relieve Yuka and figure out what the effect is.

As the worried Yuka, Miho Hanna does a excellent job portraying someone suffering from split personality and retreating into another personality when feeling cornered. Kanno also appeared in two other dread thrillers, in Eko Eko Azarak as Mizuki, and the title role in the first of the Tomie dismay films.

An involving police thriller with some unsightly images. One image has a neon billboard reading Fright, with a tiresome person forming the T, and an unexpected villain. However, in the final half hour leading to the climax, the Hypnotist veers into Ringu territory, namely scary long-haired women wearing white. Not abominable of its type.

THE HYPNOTIST

[Saimin]

(Japan – 1999)

Aspect ratio: 1.85:1

Theatrical soundtrack: Dolby Stereo SR

Following a series of bizarre and apparently unrelated ’suicides’, an experienced Tokyo detective (Ken Utsui) enlists the support of a young psychoanalyst (Goro Inagaki) who believes the victims were acting on a post-hypnotic suggestion. But their subsequent investigations direct an even darker force at work, linked to a young girl (Miho Kanno) whose life has been blighted by sadistic abuse…

Based on a unique by Keisuke Matsuoka, this densely-plotted Japanese mystery takes inspiration from a variety of sources (Italian gialli, former Japanese ghost stories, etc.), though some of the images in the climactic showdown dispute a more immediate influence: The new commercial success of Hideo Nakata’s RING (1998) . For all its ambition, however, THE HYPNOTIST is a routine potboiler which stumbles badly after a powerhouse opening (the ’suicides’ are particularly impressive, despite some veteran CGI effects), though director Masayuki Ochiai – who co-wrote the script with Yasushi Fukuda – rallies proceedings for an extended finale in which the narrative’s startling secrets are finally revealed.

Ochiai is best known for his film adaptation of novel-turned-video-game PARASITE EVE (1997) – which also starred leading man Inagaki (a member of Japanese pop group SMAP) – and while THE HYPNOTIST echoes that movie’s strong visual sense, it falls short as drama, and most of the characters are mere ciphers, undermining the storyline’s emotional pay-off. Which is a shame, because the final half hour is galvanized by a series of dynamic set-pieces – most notably, a concert hall sequence in which Dvorak’s ‘New World’symphony is transformed into an instrument of cancel! – and Ochiai is well-served by an good production team. However, those lured by the promise of gory carnage may be disappointed – the film is long on atmospherics and short on splatter.

Performances are varied, due to the script’s limitations, but Kanno (TOMIE) is outstanding as a young woman suffering from multiple personality disorder – which, the subtitles on this print assures us, isn’t recognized as a viable medical condition in Japan! – who falls prey to a sleazy TV hypnotist (Takeshi Masu), a prime suspect in the murders. Inagaki is bland in a one-dimensional role, and he’s constantly upstaged by Utsui, a passe performer whose career stretches encourage to the “Tidy Giant” series of the 1950’s.

Buying Rats was an experiment of sorts for me, partially because I wasn’t obvious about the film and partially because the reviews horrified me somewhat. I had expected to salvage a really low-budget “dismay” movie with painted gerbils posing as flesh-eating monstrosities, and I expected the acting quality that accompanied that prototypical setup. Well, in that regard I wasn’t disappointed. I was somewhat annoyed at first by the lack of “gore” the editorial initially spoke of, but something else came out of the engaging, a uncommon thing that I wasn’t aware of the movie containing. The fraction I was surprised by was the hilarious nature this movie, obviously not intended to be something monstrous, was crafted in, laughing at itself over and over again. Honestly, when watching it, I wondered if I had read about the same display I was witnessing.

The basic view of the movie is this. A group of bikers existing in a post-apocalyptic world retract shelter in a town and glimpse food, supplies, water, and rats everywhere. These rats, mutated by radiation and twisted on human consumption, are more than satisfied to allotment room with something so..tasty.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rats: Night of Terror! Click Here

Basically, engage this movie if you like B movies and something to laugh at. Don’t occupy it if you are looking for something life altering, because mutant rats normally don’t fit this criteria very well.

Oh man, how long I have been looking for this one movie for so damn long. I remember seeing this WAYYYYY serve whenever there would be those obsolete Creature Features on Sunday afternoons at 4:00 and you were a kid in a candy store. I had nothing to do but stare alarm movies all afternoon long and objective eat junk-food. I missed that expose. The thing was that I had remembered a few scenes and I knew it was about rats but I objective couldn’t score the movie. Now by the power of God (Satan? Must be to re-release THIS movie) Anchor Bay re-released this in the Uncut version. This movie is objective comic as hell. The movie soundtrack by Goblin is another addition to you who admire Eurohorror, the special effects are indecent and cheesy, and the rats themselves are actually pet mice painted sad!!! PURE GENIUS!!! I esteem the whole post-apocalyptic mood in this movie, and the avant-garde atmosphere is gigantic. This movie is not that gory, maybe 1 or 2 scenes, but very tame. This is NOT a Panic movie, this is Comedy people. Pure Comedy!!!

The first season of SEX AND THE CITY was unbelievable, but the indicate really began to hit the suitable notes during the second season they were on the air. This position fully completes my Gundam Seed anime series station since I’ve already gotten the previous two box sets and the first Gundam Seed Destiny box place which I’m truly overjoyed for since some of Bandai’s original choices of which sets to release and which to outright murder(Zegapain being one of them) . The series is hard to follow though if you’ve never seen the beginning of the GS universe and the stories of the characters so I’d converse watching the series from the very beginning to understand what is really going on, like most of the Gundam universe series this present seems to mostly stress the declare stupidity and futility of wars. If you inspect at the various fighting sides you’ll notice they all seem to have various and seemingly honest reasons for what they are doing and why they are fighting but in the slay shows how nothing will change with brute force and that it’s up to the people to willingly determine to change the method things are without the threat or apprehension of oppression. The characters grow on you and you will shout as some are killed off through the series but that in itself is what makes a enormous series as you cheer, yell, and feel for the characters as they continue on in the indicate. The bellow cast for both the Japanese and English actors were apt on for their roles and kudos to both, the video is distinct and tantalizing and the music is stout both heart pacing and lickety-split very addictive as you observe the battle scenes in the series. So I say for any mecha anime or sci-fi anime fan and for the heed check out the series you’ll most likely be very entertained, and for fans of the gundam series rejoice as the final place is finally out….

Gundam Seed Destiny, though received great harsh criticism from fans and reviewers alike isn’t unpleasant by any means. If you’ve watched the series from the beginning of Seed your in gallop for more of everything kindly and unpleasant the series has offered and delivered. The continued assaults between Zaft and the Earth forces will advance a satisfying conclusion but the sage won’t slay there. Current mobile suits near and change the course of the war. Kira and the Archangel crew will finally pick the top stage as the line between correct and tainted blur, heroes seize the side of the rank and enemies from before become welcome allies for the extinguish. I won’t spoil the epic with detailed explanations though I do give a firm warning that the last episode has somewhat of a let down ending, unbiased as it doesn’t give a lot of closure. The movie Gundam Seed Destiny Final Plus is basically an extended version of the last episode with more action and yarn and is a noteworthy more satisfying ending. Overall if you’ve enjoyed the characters, gundams, battles, and triumphs that Seed has given you so far, you’ll admire this box position. If you’ve felt you’ve been dragged along for a tiring, dart that doesn’t suit your tastes, perhaps the 4 Destiny movies would be better as they give the chronicle without all the extra development and filler. Either diagram Seed Destiny is definately a lawful Gundam thrill.

THE STORY

A splendid woman reclines on a day bed. She is restless and she is NAKED. A spotlight seems to highlight her gyrations and machinations. She sits up and slips into high-heeled sandals. She leans wait on and puffs out her chest. She places one hand upon her breast and kneads her nipple. The hand moves down across her midriff to her sex and she massages it. Suddenly she stands up and deliberately struts across the hardwood floor. After a dozen or so purposeful steps, facing the camera, she lowers herself to her knees and bends succor once again. The spotlight is smooth on her as she masturbates and as she masturbates, the camera pans correct. After panning about ninety degrees, you begin to glimpse people sitting at tables and the more it pans, you realize you are in a nightclub and the woman is an exotic performer. The woman is Nathalie.

Nathalie and Sandrine a recently hired bartender were fired that night because Nathalie would not allow the owner to force Sandrine to sleep with a customer. Tossed out on the street with nowhere to go, Sandrine approved Nathalie’s offer to exhaust the night. At her apartment, Nathalie urges Sandrine to loosen up after she admitted to admiring Nathalie’s nerve and lack of inhibitions.

Nathalie, with her dry humor and strong will, made Sandrine laugh and eventually coerced her to do in front of her what Nathalie had done in front of an audience. With that, the bond was sealed and plans were laid, based on Nathalie’s distorted opinion of care for and sex, to manipulate all men and effect a station in society for themselves. After the women’s initial successes and having compromised their boss Delacroix, (Roger Mirmont), their concept begins to devolve into a whirlpool of ruthlessness, unrequited treasure, group sex, lesbian sex, three-way sex, and masturbation, in which the only arrangement out appears to be suicide or execute.

CONCLUSION

The highly charged erotic opening scene plot the theme for the movie so well, that I was mesmerized for the rest of the movie. Good nothing that came after, with the possible exception of an “Eyes Wide Shut” style orgy scene slow in the movie, was quite as electric but I serene enjoyed the movie immensely. You ogle Secret Things had a tale. It had a station. A apt myth, a friendly site, and the overall acting was very first-rate. Secret Things is the closest I have viewed to a commercially viable, mainstream, erotic movie.

The movie Secret Things is appropriately named. The storyline is structured on secrets, deception and the duplicitous side of human nature. It is a reflection of a unlit, lascivious side of life, which rarely is truly, captured on film. In fact the movie seemed to touch on one accomplish or another, at one point or another, on all of `The Seven Deadly Sins’ – pride, envy, gluttony, lust, arouse, greed and sloth, obviously a perfect bad erotic movie.

Secret Things, French name – Choses Secretes, is the kind of movie one either loves or hates. I happened to be a lover. Even the fact that the movie was French with English sub titles did not dampen my enjoyment.

“Secret Things” (Choses Secrètes) explores the desires, ambitions, and obsessions that lie beneath the surface of everyday behavior. Specifically, life in the business world conceals a host of psychosexual games. Nathalie (Coralie Revel) is a worldly erotic performer and Sandrine (Sabrina Seyvecou) is the fresh-faced bartender at a Paris club. When they both lose their jobs, they become roommates. Sandrine envies Nathalie’s sexual self-confidence and abandon and is receptive to her lessons in life, sex, and manipulation. The two women area out to climb the socio-ecomomic ladder by seducing an earnest, dedicated senior employee (Roger Mirmont) at a company where they have both found employment The idea comes with some risk -in the perform of the company’s slick, megalomaniacal heir (Fabrice Deville) – that they may plunge victim to their enjoy machinations.

Sandrine narrates this bizarre fable of sexual power. The record could be told without voiceover narration, but, since it is essentially the anecdote of Sandrine’s self-discovery, the narration doesn’t seem gratuitous and is only a shrimp bit idle. Probably the most capable thing that I can say about “Secret Things” is that it is a film for distinct tastes. This is talky, introverted, neurotic, psychosexual gobbledygook. It is French, in other words. There is a grand deal of lesbian sex and nudity. The ideas presented in “Secret Things” are not recent, but most of the film is sufficiently seductive and unpredictable to retain the audience wondering how it will all turn out. That is not to say that it is realistic. There is a point at which the sage goes over the top and, in my thought, becomes laughably baroque and tiring,. But “Secret Things ” is generally delectable if you like heavy-handed, explicit treatises on sexual power. In French with English subtitles.

I have long wondered when Funimation would finally earn the rights to the first thirteen episodes of Dragon Ball allowing them to release a superb location. Now after all that waiting it’s finally going to happen and their giving us the first two sagas and beginning of the third all in one plot! I’m blissful to read from Gen Fukunaga, president at CEO at FUNimation Entertainment, that the unusual thirteen episodes will be redone uncut as up til now they’ve only been properly available in a highly edited DVD residence titled ‘The Saga of Goku’. While I happily purchased that space long ago from LionsGate Entertainment I’m more than cheerful to upgrade to this site if it means finally owning those first thirteen uncut episodes.

This spot will gain the following 31 episodes from the Goku/Pilaf, Tournament and Red Ribbon Army Sagas:

There haven’t been any right extras on Funimation sets other than previews for their other DVD releases so I wouldn’t count on finding any here. The region is said to include English and Japanese language options with the current Japanese musical regain in 5.1 Surround. I’m satisfied Funimation and Amazon are announcing the situation as Beefy Veil Aspect Ratio because though I adapted to the cropped ‘widescreen’ Dragon Ball Z sets I can’t imagine watching Dragon Ball in anything other than 4:3 aspect ratio. I’m so mad for this to approach out and can’t own that my long standing wish to have the first uncut season of Dragon Ball is finally coming proper. Thanks For Your Time.

Dragonball fans have been waiting for a edifying Dragonball dvd place for years. Due to the fact that lionsgate owned the rights to the first 13 episodes and the first movie, we have NEVER had all the Dragonball episodes uncut on dvd. So now it is time to be pleased this series uncut, uncropped (fullscreen aspect ratio 4:3) in the draw it was meant to be seen. With the first 31 episodes on dvd, Dragonball fans will be elated.

Almost an hour of non-stop Barney songs! My 12-month-old boy loves this tape. Now, he’s figured out that if he points to the videos and says “Ba,” he gets to search for the Barney video, so he asks a lot. This video is elegant sterling as Barney goes. I regain I like it better than the explain. One of the songs is about using your “inside explain” in the car or at school, and your “outside grunt” when you’re playing outside. It’s very cute. Another one that makes me laugh is about not letting the water urge when you brush your teeth. So specific! :o )

Compare Prices on Water

Despite being poorly received on its release, Water isn’t unprejudiced another of those films Michael Caine did for the money. There’s a strong script from Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais, who prove an informed knowledge of the confusion arising from the effects of colonialism and post-colonial on West Indian islands, spoofing both the attitudes of the locals and the representatives of Her Majesty’s Government.

Caine is blooming as the ‘gone native’ consul and Billy Connolly excels in an early film role as a half-English half-Cascaran islander, whose sympathies are definitely with the Cascarans. There are also some astonishing musical numbers, featuring George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Jon Lord, Eric Clapton, and Connolly himself, proving himself to be a splendid singer as well as a handsome actor. Leonard Rossiter gives one of his last (glowing) performances, Having objective thrown away my betamax copy of this, I am rushing to net a replacement now!

I have been waiting for a DVD version of WATER. What a hoot. It is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. So what if the comedy is completely lowbrow, but then, what do I care. The music is actually quite generous and I would like to have a soundtrack for it. The Concert for Cascara is a improbable – talk about a rock hall of fame – it’s all there.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), passe Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me bawl.

I notion it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a shrinking young boy star-struck by a famed explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become quick friends, and mutter to one day move to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they recall their dream home and fix it up, hoping to hold it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through obsolete age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a elated marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s distress when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers stop in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and move to Paradise Falls. A broken-down balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of incandescent balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a pudgy, doughty kid trying to get a scouting badge.

After landing in Paradise Falls, the outmoded man and the limited boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a great rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of cessation calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his dark mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by glorious hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole recent world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, tubby of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Catch another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to invent an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster fascinating movie. But in the meantime, they’re mild putting out palatable attractive movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety traditional man. It’s a charming, fun dinky adventure yarn with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet exiguous account about loss and admire.

As a child, the horrified Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared fancy of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, go into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a trusty estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an involved, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the amble. Unpleasant kid was impartial trying to glean an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle hotfoot to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a tremendous emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious mature man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the faded guy is very familiar to Carl — and to win Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as well-liked as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty frail coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can bask in Carl’s admire for his lost wife, and his insensible realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they reveal all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing outmoded together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy near to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of titanic dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Eye Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Chilly! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an veteran airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and positive to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is certain to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special glance. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I cherish you”) and act the draw dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to catch shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of unusual stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable entertaining shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to convey potentially contaminated baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously piquant, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can bask in. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

This movie is actually a filmed version of a play and this is clear in the viewing; the director doesn’t do consume of all the potential of the medium, it’s filmed all in one prefer (fair as a play goes from launch to effect in one go), and the scene transitions are abrupt and abominable. That being said, this film deserves no other criticism; it is certainly the finest I’ve ever seen and, I would argue, a mammoth movie in the English cinema. What makes it deserve such praise is that the acting is all very convincing and compelling, the costumes and staging are sublime and the script is, simply save, intelligent. The novel title of the work fuctions as an expedient summary: “The assasination and persecution of Jean-Paul Marat as performed by the inmates of the asylum at Charenton under the direction of the Marquis de Sade.” Site in the Napoleonic era eighteen years after the French Revolution, the Marquis (imprisoned for both political and sex crimes) directs the mentally ill inmates in a stylized recreation of the cancel of Jean-Paul Marat (a rabid Jacobin, confined to his bathtub by a skin disease, who wrote the most sanguinary Revolutionary propaganda) by Charlotte Corday (from a good background, but actually a partisan of the Girondin Revolutionaries who had been purged by Marat’s party) . This is a highly cerebral play and, although the scrip (a translation of Peter Wiess’ play) takes a very few liberties with the historical facts, a knowledge of the Revolution greatly helps in opinion and appreciating this sometimes obscure movie. There are dependable radiant pyrotechnics in the debates between Marat and de Sade, and the Marat’s monologues are filled with stunning revolutionary polemics. Corday is very well played, and her scenes are some of the most emotionally intense. The gleaming script, which doesn’t shrink from tackiling sizable Ideas, combined with the mountainous execution accomplish this a proper movie. Or rather film.

This 1966 film depicts the Marquis de Sade’s imprisonment in a mental asylum and a play that he directs using the other inmates as actors. The record of Sade was recently related in “Quills,” and that film is somewhat similar in tone, but not state. Possess it or not, the film is also a musical! The “play” within the movie chronicles events from the French Revolution pertaining to Marat, and is set aside on for the asylum’s leader and the local gentry. The local gentry are disquieted at times, and the asylum leader interrupts the play several times with interjections concerning the play’s radical ideas and how the gentry are depicted. As the play reaches its culmination, the inmates inevitably launch to stage their absorb revolution. The action is often confusing, but the emotions conveyed are so intense, that the film can be enjoyed on a visceral level.

The direction of this film is quite bright, and it must have been shapely gruesome when it was released 36 years ago. The acting is also very intense and realistic. Glenda Jackson has her starring debut here and is quite gripping, considering that she’s playing a mental asylum inmate. The only quibble I have with the DVD is the terrible sound quality. Even on DVD, the sound is muddled and the actor’s dialogue is often unintelligible, especially during the songs. Unfortunately, the DVD does not include captions/subtitles, which would have helped immensely (there are no other extras either) . A very worthwhile movie that could have been presented better on this DVD.
